INVESTIGATIONS into a huge fire that engulfed Canford Heath last month are ongoing.

Dorset Police have confirmed that enquiries are continuing into the Canford Heath fire on April 23 which is believed to have been started by a human act.

Following the devastation, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service group manager Graham Kewley said: “We have conducted a joint investigation with Dorset Police, and we have identified the location that the fire started, also being able to look at some social media images of the fire in the early stages.

“Whilst we may never identify an exact motive, the likely cause at this time is believed to be from a human cause, our working hypothesis is it is likely to be a reckless rather than any malicious act.”

Dorset Police have continued to appeal for witnesses in response to the blaze, which saw an area equivalent to 23 football pitches destroyed.

Sergeant Fern Graham, of the Poole Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I would urge anyone who was in the Canford Heath area on the afternoon of Saturday April 23 and has any information as to how the fire might have started to please make contact with us.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have captured footage on dashcams or mobile phones that might assist our investigation.”
