DORSET fire services have urged people to take extra care and dispose of their litter following a busy bank holiday.
Crews from Wareham Fire Station were called to Northmoor on bank holiday Monday following the discovery of three disposable barbeques left burning by a bin.
In a Facebook post, Wareham Fire Station urged people to be more careful. They said: “One fire engine was sent to Northmoor to three unattended BBQs still smouldering by a bin. These were soon put out with lots of water.
“Please remember make sure all the embers are out and take your rubbish home.”
The call comes days after a discarded cigarette caused a heath fire in Ashley Heath, forcing Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service to issue a plea to the public. They said: “Please help us protect our heathlands by remembering:
• Only BBQ in designated areas, never on heathland
• Don't litter
• Dispose of smoking materials responsibly
• If you see a fire, dial 999"
