PLANS for new parking regulations on beachside roads have received an "overwhelming response".

More than 200 comments have been submitted to BCP Council over the proposed parking restrictions proposed for roads in the Friars Cliff and Mudeford area.

A BCP Council consultation outlined the introduction of year-round restrictions on a number of roads including Avon Run Road, East Cliff Way, Bure Lane, Seafield Road and Seaway Avenue.

Although the discussions came to an end on March 25, the council have not yet confirmed any official changes to parking regulations in the area.

Bournemouth Echo:

A BCP Council spokesperson said: “The legal consultation notice period ended on 25th March 2022. BCP received in excess of 200 comments which are being assessed and reviewed to make recommendations to be taken forward through the BCP democratic process.

“It is hoped that any new parking restrictions will be implemented for the peak summer season.”

Cllr Lesley Dedman, ward councillor for Mudeford, Stanpit and West Highcliffe said: “We’re hoping it will be passed through the council.

“They are considering everything that every resident has said.

“It was a really good consultation- we had a lot of people grumbling and a lot of people saying it was a good idea. They will be balancing that all out.”

Many residents of the area have welcomed the proposed changes following concerns about cars parking on their roads.

Speaking to the Daily Echo during the consultation, one resident, Denise, of Seaway Avenue said: “It’s got so much worse. I’ve been here 30 years and when I first came here it was manageable, there were still cars, but it wasn’t like this.

Bournemouth Echo:

“It’s just madness.

“It shouldn’t be this hard to get into your own home.”

Another resident said: “It’s dangerous for me when I come out of my driveway as there’s such poor visibility with cars parked everywhere.”

During the proposal, chairman of the Friars Cliff parking and road safety group Paul De Jonghe told the Daily Echo that the proposal will focus on ‘pinch points’ which cause the most issues in the area.

He said: “These pinch points are the points that cause congestion, traffic difficulties and poor access for emergency vehicles.

“What we’re doing will provide a dramatic road safety improvement.”
