Police have issued a message to Dorset dog walkers following the discovery of a dead raptor in the forest.

A Facebook post by North Dorset police has urged dog walkers to keep their pets on a lead after a deceased Buzzard was found in the Ashmore area, warning pet owners over the dangers of poison.

They said: “It's not known at this stage how the bird died but bearing in mind recent events, I would urge dog walkers out enjoying our beautiful forests and woods to keep them on a lead.

“Poison can be indiscriminate and sometimes fatal.”

In response to a concerned resident’s comment on the post, North Dorset Police advised an investigation was underway and would be a 'multi-agency affair'.

Any walkers who see a dead Raptor, especially alongside other dead animals, is advised to call 101.
