A man has been taken to hospital after a crash with a van in Bournemouth early on Thursday morning.

Police were called to Holdenhurst Road, near to the junction with Cleveland Road, in Bournemouth at 3.56am following reports of the crash between the pedestrian and a white Peugeot Boxer panel van.

Officers attended, along with the ambulance service, and the pedestrian – a man aged in his 20s – was taken to hospital for treatment to what is believed to be a serious injury. His family has been informed.

The vehicle was recovered and the road was reopened shortly after 7am.

An eyewitness said the road was closed completely.

Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Sergeant Lee Savage, of the traffic unit, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened to please contact us. I would also like to hear from any witnesses with information as to the movements of the vehicle or pedestrian involved prior to the collision.

“I would urge any motorists who were travelling in the area around the relevant time and have dashcam fitted to their vehicle to please check their footage for anything of relevance.

“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place.”
