FIRE crews investigating a second heath fire over the weekend said there is no obvious cause at the moment.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue service were called to a heath fire on Talbot Heath, Poole at 4.20pm on Sunday.

Crews from Redhill Park, Westbourne, Christchurch and Poole attended the incident along with small 4x4 pumping appliances from Ferndown, Hamworthy and Wimborne.

On arrival, firefighters found an area of heath measuring 25m x 30m involved in the fire.

The fire was extinguished by the small 4x4 pumping appliances, hose reel jets from the heavy duty off road appliance and beaters.

A spokesperson from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "Our stop came at 5.09pm and the incident was scaled back, with just the 4x4s remaining on scene to dampen down.

"All crews had left the scene by 6.30pm.

"A reinspection was carried out just before 8pm, no hotspots were found.

"There’s no obvious cause at this stage."

The Talbot Heath fire was the second fire to take hold in Poole over the weekend, after a huge heath fire devastated Canford Heath on Saturday night, forcing people to evacuate their homes.

Fifteen fire engines were called to heath as they battled to control the blaze which destroyed an area the size of 23 international football pitches.
