TWO much-loved festivals celebrating all things retro will return to Bournemouth and Poole this summer.

Shake & Stir Festival will take place at Fisherman’s Walk in Southbourne on June 25 and 26 with Poole Goes Vintage held two weeks later on July 9 and 10.

Organisers say Poole Goes Vintage will be back “bigger and better than ever”  following a break in 2021.

Shake & Stir Festival features vintage fashion, local traders and live music playing the sounds of the 1920s through to the 1970s.

Mandy Polkey, managing director of Stir Events who has organised this year’s Shake & Stir Festival, said: “Community is such a massive part of Shake & Stir, it’s the heritage and origin of the festival, so I’m really excited to see the vintage lovers and local community celebrating together.”

Both events will feature a host of local traders with Shake & Stir hosting a greatest bartender competition and Poole Goes Vintage showcasing a classic car exhibition.

Visitors will be able to dress up and take part in Shake and Stir’s best dressed vintage king and queen competition or lindy hop through the day with dance workshops at Poole Goes Vintage.

Shake & Stir Festival has delighted visitors for almost a decade and attracted 22,000 people last year.

The festival will showcase music from the Swing Unlimited Big Band, Phil Halley and The Comments, Be Bop A Lula, Andy Kennet as Elvis and Andy Shailer – Crazy Rhythm Jukebox in the DJ vinyl booth with MR D DJ Dave Norrell as MC on the bandstand.

This year’s Poole Goes Vintage will be managed by Stir Events in partnership with BCP Council with funding from Festival Coast Live.

The family friendly event boasts fairground rides, stalls and face painting for children as well as vintage traders selling vintage clothing, jewellery and gifts.

Ms Polkey added: “We’re really looking forward to hosting this vintage spectacular on Poole Quay this July, it’s such a wonderful opportunity for locals, visitors, and the business community to come together and celebrate Poole and all things vintage, a great day out for everyone.”
