RESIDENTS at a care home in Ferndown came face to face with some rather unusual visitors.
Ferndown Manor, in Golf Links Road, welcomed friendly alpacas Whiskey and Hickery in the home’s garden.
June Brown, 85, said: “I loved meeting the alpacas and was so excited to look up and see them in my room. I can't believe how tame and well behaved they were. They were also so soft to touch. I can't decide which alpaca is my favourite as they were both lovely. I am looking forward to seeing them again when they next visit.”
As part of the animal therapy session, residents learnt about the history and characteristics of alpacas, as well as other interesting facts about the calming animals.
Home manager at Ferndown Manor, Sara Muslin, said: “We had a wonderful afternoon meeting Whiskey and Hickery.
“Here at Ferndown Manor, we are always looking for new and exciting activities for residents to enjoy. Animal therapy has proven to be incredibly beneficial for older people, as it can be calming, prompt conversations, and put a smile on everyone’s faces.
"Alpacas are known for being gentle animals, which makes them perfect for care home visits.
“It was so lovely to welcome the two alpacas into the home, and we look forward to seeing them again very soon.”
