A MAN from Bournemouth has been handed a bill of more than £400 after being taken to court for littering a cigarette butt.
Yong Li, aged 47 and of East Howe Lane, Bournemouth, was alleged to have thrown down, dropped or otherwise deposited the litter in Above Bar Street, Bournemouth, on January 17.
The case was taken to court by Southampton City Council for a breach of the Environmental Protection Act and dealt with through the single justice procedure on April 14 at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.
The offence was proved against Li and he was handed a £220 fine. He was also ordered to pay £168.75 costs and £34 surcharge.
