A POOLE care home has been recognised nationally for creating its very own pub for residents to socialise during lockdown.

Care UK’s The Potteries, in York Road, has been shortlisted in the ‘Best for Indoor or Outdoor Communal Spaces’ category, which recognises the teams’ efforts to create communal spaces for the home.

The team at The Potteries are recognised for creating the ‘Lockdown Arms’, their very own care home pub where residents could socialise during the pandemic.

Judges noted the team's quick response to the lockdown, as the pub was created in just two weeks.

Residents enjoy themed nights, pub quizzes and karaoke. As well as traditional pub grub, the head chef even sourced an ice crusher machine so residents could enjoy cocktails and mocktails.

Resident Aidan Wall said: "I've enjoyed the Lockdown Arms. We have sung songs and had fish and chips there. Music is also very important to keep the pub alive. I love to see my friends from other suites there.”

Zita Turner, home manager, said: “Being shortlisted is testament to the team's hard work and innovative thinking to ensure every resident leads a happy and fulfilling life.”

The Care Home Awards winners will be announced at a ceremony in July.
