POLICE have warned the public of an increase of thefts of catalytic converters, with thieves “taking advantage” of the rising value of metal.

Christchurch Police has urged people to report anything suspiciously immediately after an increase of the thefts in the area.

A spokesperson said: “Your local neighbourhood policing team would like to make the public aware of a recent increase in thefts of catalytic converters across Christchurch, in particular from Hondas.

“Catalytic converters contain precious metal. Thieves are taking advantage of the rising value of this metal, using cordless power tools and a car jack to remove them.

“If you see anything suspicious, report it to us immediately on 999. For crime prevention advice go to www.dorset.police.uk/CatCon.”
