AN “apologetic” driver, who passed their test six months ago, has been clocked speeding just shy of 100mph on a busy Poole road.
A Dorset Police Traffic Unit officer was stationed by the A35 Upton Bypass at around 11.30pm on Monday, April 11, when a new driver shot up the road reaching speeds of 99mph – almost 30mph over the speed limit.
In a social media post, a Dorset Traffic Cops spokesperson said: “The driver was apologetic throughout and generally a reasonable person but despite the conditions at the time, this speed is completely unacceptable.
“Police drivers who regularly drive at this and higher speeds only do so for the most serious things. They’ve also benefited from eight weeks of training, whereas this driver only passed a test six months ago.”
Officers added while the driver avoided disqualification, this punishment “may still follow”.
