A POLICE crackdown on anti-social drivers saw officers dish out tickets to several motorists in a single patrol.

Offences included a car driver “harshly accelerating" and a motorcyclist pulling a wheelie in front of an unmarked police car.

Both of these incidents took place in Banks Road, Sandbanks on the evening of Friday, April 8.

They were caught by officers from Dorset Police’s No Excuse proactive traffic policing unit.

The team were targeting anti-social behaviour by drivers across Poole as part of Operation Charge.

A Poole Police spokesperson said: “Op Charge is a new and permanent police operation.

“The team has particular interest in the garage at Safety Drive and the Sandbanks peninsula, these are our hotspots for Op Charge.

“Our No Excuse Team have a fleet of unmarked vehicles in various makes and models.

“Anti-social driving will not be tolerated in Poole and those behaving in such a way should expect to find themselves subject to formal action moving forwards.”

The car driver who was caught accelerating in Banks Road was stopped and checks showed they had no MOT, so a ticket was issued.

The motorcyclist who performed the wheelie admitted his actions and was given a ticket along with a recommendation to complete a driving course.

Other stops included a white Audi convertible with the driver reportedly not having a driving licence. The vehicle was seized and the driver was reported.

A ticket was issued to the driver of a Volkswagen T6 which had an expired MOT.

Another motorcyclist was found to have no road tax so received a ticket.

Lastly, a vehicle was seized at the Civic Centre after it came up as not being insured.

The Poole Police spokesperson said words of advice were given to other motorists for minor speed infringements.

They said: “The sound of a loud exhaust does not mean high speed, as most were under 30mph.

“None the less, the noise is annoying for residents and there is legislation available for Officers to target this.“
