A WOMAN sustained serious injuries after a vehicle crashed into a tree and caught fire on Monday night. 

Emergency services were called to the single-vehicle collision in Cranborne Road, near to the crossroads for Didlington, at around 10.20pm.

The driver’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and the woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police attended along with the fire and ambulance service and closed the road.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.18pm on Monday 4 April 2022 to a report of a single vehicle collision on Cranborne Road near to the crossroads for Didlington.

“It was reported that the vehicle was in collision with a tree and was on fire. Officers attended with the fire and ambulance services. The road was closed.

“The driver sustained serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening and was taken to hospital for treatment.”

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to the B3078 near Horton at 10.23pm last night following a collision between a car and a tree.

"Two crews attended, from Cranborne and Verwood; the female driver was out of the vehicle when we arrived, so firefighters provided casualty care and used one hose reel jet to deal with a small fire in the vehicle. Our stop was at 10.53pm."

The local authority was made aware of due to oil on the road and recovery was requested for the vehicle.

The incident was dealt with at around 1.45am on Tuesday morning.
