YELLOW Buses is increasing the price of most fares by around five per cent later this month.

The bus operator said the fare changes from Tuesday, April 12, were in response to “increased costs caused by a number of factors”.

The bus company said: “Yellow Buses will be increasing most fares by around 5 per cent with effect from Tuesday 12th April in response to increased costs caused by a number of factors, notably fuel which has already risen year on year by 20 per cent, whilst it has increased by 50 per cent over the last month since the Ukrainian crisis.

“This is the first increase since 2019, and the rate of increase is substantially less than our cost increases of around 55 per cent, meaning that we are absorbing a large proportion of the cost increases within the business.”

From April 12, an adult Zone A ticket will cost £4.60 through cash, contactless and smartcard payments and £4.80 via the mobile app.

The ZoneAB ticket will cost £6.50 for adults across all payment methods with the Zone ABC priced at £8 for cash and contactless and £8.20 through app.

Regular passengers have been encouraged to take advantage of the Flexible 5 ticket which brings the price of a day ticket to £4.

A 90-day ticket will remain frozen at the current price.
