THE RSCPA has received almost 80 calls over the past year about Dorset animals injured or caught in litter.

New figures reveal that the RSPCA received 75 reports of animals across the county found severely injured, trapped, mutilated, choked, or even dead from carelessly discarded litter.

The figures from last year are a drop in reports received by the RSPCA compared to 2020's figures - a total of 103.

In total, the RSPCA took 7,441 calls about animals affected by litter during 2020 and 2021, and the animal charity is urging people to do their bit and join the Great British Spring Clean’s ‘Big Bag Challenge’.

An RSPCA spokeswoman said: "Litter is one of the biggest hazards our wildlife faces.

"That’s why we’re calling on the public to get involved in the Great British Spring Clean to help remove litter that may endanger animals."
