IT is already home to more than 140 species, but Marwell Zoo has welcomed a roar-some new range of creatures as part of its latest attraction.

The park, near Winchester, has unveiled a collection of 55 dinosaur models, made using more than two million toy bricks, as BRICKOSAURS! Evolution makes its world debut.

Visitors can step back in time and embark on a prehistoric adventure, coming face to face with Raptors, a seven metre-long Spinosaurus and a huge Mosasaur emerging from the water, as well as a number of baby dinos to spot as you roam around the site.

There are a range of fascinating facts on display, including how many bricks and how many hours it takes the team to create each model, as well as a dedicated app to test your inner palaeontologist, and an informative Fossil Zone.

Sean Mannie, Marwell's commercial director, said: "The BRICKOSAURS are back and they have evolved. It's a fantastic, all-new show featuring 55 models, made from two million toy bricks.

"We're certain the show will make Marwell a 'must-visit' family day out in 2022 and will thrill guests, dinosaur and toy brick enthusiasts of all ages."

The event has taken professional builders at the Hampshire workshop of Bricklive International more than 9,000 hours to complete. The process includes a creative meeting to decide which species to create, and to discuss the exact pose to ensure each design passes rigorous health and safety checks.

Designers then create a 3D digital model featuring the toy bricks and colours using computer sculpting software, before teams of two to seven people build each sculpture around a stainless steel frame to ensure structural safety, gluing together one brick at a time.

BRICKOSAURS! Evolution is on display at Marwell Zoo between now and September 4. Pre-booking is essential.
