POOLE Quay and high street will be inaccessible to cars until the autumn. 

Walking and cycling prioritisation will see roads closed to motorists between 10am and 10pm daily from Friday, April 1.

Full access and bay parking will be available between 10pm and 10am during this period for all motorists.

Affected roads include The Quay, between Thames Street and the mini roundabout at the end of Old Orchard.

The high street (from the junction with Castle Street down to The Quay) and Castle Street (the first 15 metres north of the Quay) as well as Paradise Street will all be closed to motorists.

The prioritisation will remain in place until October 31.

The council’s cabinet member for transport, councillor Mike Greene, previously said the arrangement was “the best of both worlds” for businesses and the public.

Measures to block off the area around The Quay, High Street, Castle Street and Paradise Street were introduced under the council’s former Unity Alliance administration in 2020.
