A short inquest hearing into Mr Fox’s death was held at Bournemouth Town Hall on Tuesday, March 28 when senior coroner for Dorset, Rachael Griffin, suspended proceedings until the outcome of the criminal case.

Ms Griffin said: “I have received correspondence from the Crown Prosecution Service in respect of the ongoing investigation into the death.

“In respect of that correspondence, I note that there are to be criminal proceedings brought. Accordingly they have requested that I adjourn these proceedings awaiting the outcome of the criminal proceedings.”

Road closures were put in place to allow the emergency services to deal with the incident.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the incident, with reports of around seven police cars on the scene around an hour after the crash.

The driver of the Citroen, a local man aged in his 70s, was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Flowers were left at the scene in the days following the crash. A card with one of the bouquets said: “Rest in peace. Our thoughts are with your family and friends."

Police released a statement after the incident from sergeant Mark Scammell, of the traffic unit, which read: “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly died and we are carrying out a full investigation to establish the circumstances of this collision.

“I would urge any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage who has not already spoken to police to please contact us."
