Royal Blood almost blew the roof off the BIC on Friday night with a show that rocked the venue to its very foundations.

It’s been eight years since the release of their self-titled debut album and although their third long player Typhoons was only released twelve months ago, they have built up a set list that kept the very boisterous crowd dancing, singing and chanting for the entire two-hour show.

The evening started with a fine set from The Amazons whose short but powerful offering certainly got the crowd in the right frame of mind for the headliners.

After a short break the lights went down and after some extended intro music Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher took to the stage and went straight into Typhoons the title track from their latest album.

Boilermaker, Lights Out and Come On Over followed in rapid succession before anyone on or off the stage had time to take a breath.

When we finally did pause it was just for a quick hello from Mike and a short chat reflecting all our thoughts that we are so glad that live music is back and that we could be here tonight.

The two band members manage to fill the arena with a sound that much larger groups would be proud of and although supplemented by keyboards, it's those drums and that bass guitar that dominate the evening.

The strip lights, strobes and circular lighting rig were a superb addition that complimented the music and added to the atmosphere of an evening that saw one of the most energetic crowds I have seen at the BIC for a while.

The main set came to an end all too soon with Figure It Out but it was not long before Mike returned for All We Have Now performed acoustic and solo sitting at the piano. The three song encore ended with Out of the Black bringing a triumphant evening to a close.
