ONE of the biggest events in Dorset’s annual running calendar takes place next month.

Hundreds of runners will pound the seafront for the Bournemouth Bay Run on Sunday, April 3.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the popular run.

What races will be happening?

Bournemouth Bay Run is open to runners of all abilities and ages.

Youngsters can take part in a 1k fun run.

Then for adults, there’s a 5k, 10k and half-marathon to choose from.

What time does it start and where?

The 1km kids fun run starts at 9.25am at Pier Approach.

The 10k sets off from the west of Bournemouth Pier at 9.15am.

The half-marathon leaves Pier Approach at 10am.

Lastly, the 5k will take place at 12.15pm to the west of Bournemouth Pier.

Wheelchair entries for the 10k and half marathon are 9.10am and 9.55am respectively.

The 5k, 10k and half marathon are all chip timed events.

What are the routes?

Half Marathon

The route takes runners west along the seafront to Durley Chine turning right through the car park up to West Overcliff Drive. Runners will take a left along West Overcliff Drive, across the bridge over Middle Chine and to the junction of West Cliff Road before taking runners down to the seafront at Alum Chine. They will then pass Bournemouth Pier, to Southbourne, before heading towards Boscombe Pier and finishes east of Pier Approach. 

10k

The route takes runners east along the seafront, past Boscombe Pier towards Southbourne. The course then leaves the seafront by turning left at Gordon Steps, onto Southbourne Overcliff Drive and towards Boscombe before ending near Harry Ramsdens. 

5k

The 5k starts west of Pier Approach and follows the promenade past Boscombe Pier to the turnaround point on Boscombe Prom. The route retraces its steps to Boscombe Pier returning to Pier Approach along the prom.

1k 

The 1k follows the prom past the turnaround point by East Cliff. The route retraces its steps returning to Pier Approach along the promenade.

How much does entry cost?

The 1k is £5 for those pre-registered and will be £6 on the day.

The 5k costs £8 for pre-registered and £10 on the day.

The 10k costs £18 to pre-register, meanwhile the half marathon costs £34.

Is there an age limit in place?

There’s no minimum age for the children’s 1k, but those taking part in the 5k must be aged 11 and over.

The 10k is open to those aged 15 and over, while those wishing to enter the half marathon must be aged at least 17.
