FROM next week the A35 Commercial Road, a main route for people traveling between Bournemouth and Poole, will receive the first part of a major upgrade.

On Monday, March 28, BCP Council will begin essential overnight resurfacing works from Poole Civic Centre gyratory, up to and including the Church Road traffic light junction at Ashley Cross.

The resurfacing work is as part of the BCP Council annual highway maintenance programme and will take approximately four weeks to complete.

The road will be open as usual during the day and letters have already been issued to residents and businesses informing them of the upcoming works programme.

The resurfacing will be carried out during a series of overnight road closures between 7pm and 6am.

These closures will take place on the following dates:

  • March 28 to April 1 (4 nights)
  • April 4 to April 7 (3 nights)
  • April 11 to April 14 (3 nights)
  • April 19 to April 23 (4 nights)

Councillor Mike Greene, BCP Council’s portfolio holder for transport and sustainability, said: “It’s clear this section of road is reaching the end of its serviceable lifespan and we need to take steps to make this much-used and major route safe for the future.

"The resurfacing will prevent damage to vehicles, make journeys smoother and improve the overall appearance of the road for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors.

“Due to the importance of this route, and to minimise the impact on local businesses, we will be working at night and avoiding weekends for the main works.”

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for journeys during this time, follow the in-place diversions and use alternative routes.
