A DRIVER was “slightly animated” when stopped by police and admitted to using “cannabis alternatives” before returning a positive drug test for cannabis and cocaine.

Officers from the Dorset Traffic Cops stopped the driver in the Poole area in a busy late shift on Thursday.

A spokesperson said: “We had information about a vehicle possibly being used by an impaired driver in the Poole area and we quickly located said vehicle.

“The driver was slightly animated but very helpful indeed in complying with all our requirements, admitting they had been using cannabis alternatives.

“Sadly, for them, they returned positive results for cocaine and cannabis so came to spend some time at our place where they assisted our investigation by providing a sample of their blood.

“Their and our surprise at the result somewhat reduced on the driver’s admission of cocaine use in the last week.

“After leaving that driver behind, we patrolled the Bournemouth area and found the retro Saab convertible looking slightly tired.

“It was well overdue some TLC with its MOT having expired in December 2021 with the driver saying initially they had no idea it had lapsed but later confirming they had booked an appointment next week.

“This driver received a £100 fixed penalty and was told in no uncertain terms to leave it at home until they needed to get it to the test itself.”
