INVESTIGATIONS are ongoing into the cause of a bus fire in Broadstone.

Two fire crews from Poole attended the fire in Lower Blandford Road following a 999 call at 10.04am on Tuesday, March 22.

Firefighters tackled the blaze and extinguished the fire by 10.34am which had broken out in the rear engine compartment.

Early indications show that the fire could have been caused by an electrical fault, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Managing director of Yellow Buses, David Squire, said: “It will take a while to establish the exact cause as this requires a specific technical investigation involving various bodies and there are industry protocols to follow, early indications are that it was an electrical fault, but this is not confirmed.

“Until this investigation is completed, we are unable to confirm whether the bus will be rebuilt, however, we have excess vehicles in the fleet so the loss of this particular bus has no effect on our ability to meet service delivery requirements.”

The number 18 bus driver has been commended for his “swift actions” ensuring the safe evacuation of all passengers and alerting Yellow Buses to schedule the recovery vehicle.
