AN HISTORIC street in Dorset was brought to a standstill after a bomb squad raced to the location following reports of 'explosives'.
Dorset Police along with an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team (EOD) were called to Shaftesbury's famous Gold Hill on Tuesday afternoon after two suspicious shells were found.
A police cordon was introduced in Gold Hill around 4.30pm as the EOD crew inspected the 'potentially explosive' devices.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 4.26pm that two shells had been located in Gold Hill in Shaftesbury that potentially contained explosives.
"The EOD was contacted and officers put a cordon in place for the safety of members of the public.
"An EOD team attended and retrieved the items. The cordon was lifted and officers left the scene at around 6.40pm."
