THE highly-anticipated Downton Abbey sequel will be screened at the Regent Centre in Christchurch.

There will be a total of 58 screenings from the film's national release on Friday, April 29 until Thursday, May 19.

Downton Abbey: A New Era sees the Crawley family go on an adventure journey to the South of France to uncover the mystery of dowager countess’ newly inherited villa.

All of the fan favourites will be returning including Dame Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville  and Jim Carter, along with new additions Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West.

The sequel was initially scheduled for UK release in December 2021 before being delayed to March 18, 2022, as a result of the pandemic.

In January 2022, it was pushed back once again in the hopes that audiences would feel more comfortable returning to the cinema in the spring.

In 2019, the Regent Centre won the award for No.1 cinema in the UK for the sales of the first Downton Abbey film which became the bestselling film in 90 years.

The venue held 52 screenings and welcomed over 12,700 cinemagoers.
