A NEW Mexican-inspired restaurant will open its doors in Bournemouth town centre.

Tortilla, which is described as a California-stye Mexican restaurant chain, will open the site of the former Oasis clothing store which closed its doors in 2019.

The site has branded signage outside and says Tortilla will be “rollin’ into town soon”.

According to the Tortilla website, the chain serves “real California burritos and tacos”.

It has dozens of eateries across the UK with the nearest branch currently located in West Quay shopping centre in Southampton.

It is thought the new eatery will be the first Tortilla in Dorset.

Items on the menu include burritos, tacos, ‘naked burritos’, nachos, quesadillas and salads.

Last September Tortilla announced plans to open 45 new sites over the next five years.

Earlier this year, the chain reported a surge in sales as it was boosted by strong delivery sales during lockdowns.

It told shareholders that revenues rocketed by 79 per cent to £48.1 million for the year to January 2, despite lockdown measures throughout the first quarter.

Like-for-like sales were also 23.8 per cent higher than in 2019, the company said.

The Daily Echo has contacted Tortilla for details on when the new Bournemouth branch will open and how many jobs will be created.
