AN unexploded World War Two bomb was detonated this morning after it was discovered at a holiday park.
A controlled explosion was carried out just after 7am following the discovery of the ordnance at the Hoburne Naish holiday park in Barton on Sea.
Police were called to the site in Christchurch Road in New Milton at 6.25pm on Monday evening, March 21.
A 100-metre cordon was put in place as a precaution and a guard remained on the scene overnight.
A spokesperson for Hoburne Naish said: “We can confirm that a controlled detonation has been carried out on an unexploded World War Two bomb after being uncovered on the park’s new development.
“The area is now safe, and all restrictions are now lifted.”
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “Officers attended and put in a place a 100m cordon as a precaution and a scene guard was in operation overnight.
“A controlled explosion of the device was completed just after 7am this morning.”
A number of residents took to social media to report hearing the loud bang in Highcliffe and New Milton this morning when the device was detonated.
