ANOTHER peaceful demonstration promoting peace in Ukraine was held in Bournemouth Square on Sunday afternoon.
More than a dozen residents of all ages assumed position in a corner of the busy Square to rally support for the people of Ukraine displaced from their homes due to the Russian invasion.
Demonstrators held placards and provided members of the public with leaflets on how to help the cause as well as offering blue and yellow ribbons.
Lithuanian national and event organiser Egle Berkmonaite told the Echo: “The war is still happening and we’re paying attention to Putin’s rhetoric. Ukraine is holding up the front for the rest of Europe and they need help.
“This is not the world any of us want to live in. I feel what we’re doing at the moment, protesting, making petitions and supporting in any way, are just little acts to show the kind of world we want to live in.
“We’re really urging people to pay attention, come together and make their voices heard, because that’s a very healthy way to deal with the anger a lot of us are feeling right now. Also it’s good for our elected officials to see that we the people are not happy with what’s happening, people want peace.”
Egle added everybody is welcome at the demonstrations and is encouraging local Bournemouth businesses to show support in any way they can.
It is intended for the demonstrations to be held weekly every Sunday in the Square.
