A MAN has been handed a court bill of more than £400 after failing to pay for a £5.10 train ticket.
Lewis Mann, aged 41, was said to have travelled on a South Western Railway service between Pokesdown and New Milton on April 15, 2021, having not paid the required fare.
Mann, whose address was given as Salisbury Road, Bournemouth, was taken to court by the train franchise.
He did not enter a plea to the charge, which was dealt with through the single justice procedure at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on March 1.
Sitting in a closed doors hearing, a lone magistrate found the offence proved against Mann.
The defendant was fined £220 and ordered to pay £5.10 compensation, £34 surcharge and £160 costs.
