A HUNGARIAN vintage vehicle collector splashed out more than £70,000 on a selection of classic motorbikes which went under the hammer this month.
Sales totalled in excess of £800,000 at the Sherborne based-Charterhouse specialist auctions of classic and vintage motorcycles and cars on March 3 and 9.
Collectors were treated to a range of vehicles from decades gone by, including bikes from the 1930s and sports cars from the 1980s. Top lot of the motorcycle auction was the 1962 AJS 7R which was sold for £36,500.
Sold to a Hungarian collector was a brace of Norton Manx’s. First up at £30,000 was a 1961 Manx 500 followed by £20,000 for a 1960 Manx 350. The collector, bidding live via the internet, also bought a 1937 OK Supreme RCB 350 at £20,000 among other bikes.
In the classic car auction, a 1989 Porsche Carrera Sport Targa sold for £36,000. From long term ownership, it was painted in the classic Porsche colour of Guards Red.
Also for sale was a 1960 Daimler Dart SP250 which has been garage stored since the early 1970s. Despite needing full restoration, there was huge pre-sale interest with the winning bidder paying £11,000 for the project.
