A GYM member has complained of “hundreds” of dead fly corpses on the floor of the showers, as well as “human hair” lying around and “neglected” exercise machines.

The member of Pelhams, run by BH Live, said he dreads to think what goes on behind the scenes at the leisure centre.

The male, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “I am a member of the gym and joined in February.

“On my first day there my wife, who joined at the same time, sat on the machine and asked how does it work.

“I said ‘do this, do that’ and realised it was broken. I told somebody and they stuck tape on it, the tape is still there now.

“The machine maintenance is non-existent. There has been an exercise machine out of order for more than five weeks now, and counting, and there are clear signs of maintenance neglect on the exercise machines such as loose bolts and missing safety guards in front of weight stacks.

“Also, the vinyl plank floors are dirty and peeling up in places. I dread to think what goes on behind the scenes.”

The member pays £90 for a family membership and said he uses mainly the gym and the shower.

However, he hasn’t been able to use the showers due to a “pest control issue”.

He continued: “The men’s dry change showers are finally back in use after being closed for the last three weeks due to a pest control issue.

“The dead corpses of flies have been found by the hundred all over the floor in the men’s dry changing rooms.

“The gym is in a disgusting state with thick dust and human hair lying around. You can physically see the clean patches where people walk, it’s pretty gross.

“I thought cleaning had been scaled up since Covid, surely they can afford cleaners?

“The leisure centre was awarded prestigious recognition in 2020 by Sport England through its leading national quality scheme, the award praised the facilities, including the cleanliness, it seems the standards have slipped.”

A spokesperson for BH Live said: We are really disappointed to read these comments.

“If there is anything our customers feel needs attention, we would encourage them to speak with us in centre so we can address it straight away.

“Our facilities are regularly cleaned and checked. We also inspect equipment for safety and carry out frequent operational checks.

“If any equipment needs repair or maintenance, it is clearly marked out of order while specialist repairs, parts and fitting is arranged.

“Repairs can sometimes take longer than expected, owing to supplier challenges, however our team is always available in centre to offer alternative exercises or equipment.

“We temporarily closed the showers in one of the changing rooms while works were carried out, but these have now reopened.”
