THE teenager accused of murdering a 21-year-old Bournemouth DJ has appeared in court.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, spoke only to confirm his name and address at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, March 16.

Magistrates sent the case to be heard at Winchester Crown Court on Thursday.

Prosecuting, Richard Withey said it would only be appropriate to remand the defendant in youth detention.

Magistrate Martin Arthur remanded the youth, from Poole, in a youth detention centre.

Bournemouth Echo:

The teen is accused of murder after 21-year-old Tom Roberts was stabbed in the chest outside Subway in Old Christchurch Road, at 4.44am on Saturday, March 12.

He was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition, but died a short time later.

The heartbroken family of Mr Roberts said they could not comprehend what had happened to him.

He was a drum and bass DJ known as 'Nomad' and had previously worked at local nightclubs in Bournemouth but had dreams of becoming a Royal Marine in the future.

His sister, Patti Roberts, said: “He was such a strong, kind and funny person. I didn't see him as a man because to me he was still that cheeky, mischievous brother that brought so much life into the room.

"We can't begin to comprehend what has happened to him.

"His future was going to be bright. He wanted to be a marine. He was in a beautiful relationship with his girlfriend and they were supposed to be going on holiday this week.

"He had so many people in his life that loved him. And now he's gone.”

He was a popular figure at Bomo Bunker whose manager said he “worked so hard to be the best”.
