A NEW report highlighting plans for a zero carbon Dorset by 2030 praises the “ingenuity and resilience of the Dorset community” as it makes sustainable steps.

Dorset 2030 is a report compiled by a team of volunteers with input from the public, academics and sustainability professionals. It highlights more than 120 case studies of positive steps taken by local councils, businesses, schools, universities, and community groups.

Examples of positive steps forward include the Blandford Hill Eco Hub project, which proposes an electric vehicle charging station, a ground-mounted solar farm and a battery storage facility on land south of the A354 at Blandford Hill.

However, the report also states that the wider Dorset community “needs to build on this at scale and pace” to achieve net zero in the timescale climate scientists have set out.

Mark Chivers, lead author, said: “We have been constantly amazed and delighted to uncover all the great work already going on in the county. It provides the clear evidence of what could be achieved collectively with political leadership, targeted investment and funding and the ingenuity and resilience of the Dorset community.”
