AMENDED plans for the recognisable Golden Arches totem for a new McDonald’s restaurant in Christchurch have been approved.
The fast-food giant saw its initial plan for an eight-metre high sign rejected as it was considered “overly prominent” and would “detract from the character of the surrounding area”, according to BCP Council planners.
McDonald’s submitted a second application for the site at Christchurch Retail Park in Barrack Road to erect a five-metre high totem, which had been suggested by a local authority planning officer.
This application was approved earlier this month under delegated powers.
As reported, McDonald’s is set to demolish the former Pizza Hut restaurant at the site and replace it with a new outlet with a drive thru.
The company said it is planning to open its second Christchurch franchise this summer, having operated in Somerford Road for decades.
