There's not much quite as satisfying as enjoying a roast on a cold winter's day.

Sometimes though, the effort required to cook the meal and tackle the clean up afterwards, is just too much.

With this in mind, we've compiled a list of the top 5 pubs in Dorset that serve up a cracking roast dinner.

Because the bright lights of Bournemouth can sometimes overshadow the rest of the county, we have excluded it from this list and created a list all of it's own - so click here if you'd prefer to see the top 5 in Bournemouth.

The Fat Badger

Where: 90 Camp Road, Weymouth DT4 9HF
Rating: 4/5

One reviewer wrote: "They have come up with a great solution to the (covid-induced) Sunday carvery crisis - they now bring all the food to your table on a platter. 3 types of meat (the beef was cooked to perfection), a giant Yorkshire pud, loads of delicious vegetables and a huge gravy boat, and they'll bring more if you run out (we didn't). One of the best roast dinners I've ever had. Lovely staff and awesome views! Highly recommended."

Another said: "What an amazing experience. We walked in an were greeted by two ladies who couldn’t be more helpful and very cheerful. They not only made us feel welcomed but actually happy for us to be there.

"We were served some very nice cyder and wine and we had a few questions about the menu which the waitering staff were very helpful, but we then had the chef come to our table to help us with the menu. She was awesome!

"She helped us through the menu, explained all the dish’s and made some customisations to our meals to suit us individually. Honestly my mum dragged me up here but this is the best food he had in Weymouth and I’m hoping I will be able to book this place in the future for business events."

Where: 71 High Street, Wimborne Minster BH21 4AT
Rating: 4/5

One reviewer wrote: "Came here for Sunday lunch for the first time. The roasts were superb, beef was perfectly cooked and all of the veg was delicious. Cauliflower cheese extra is more than worth it. Great that your can also choose from the full menu, the kids had burger/sausage and the portions were huge! Friendly staff and great location too! We will be back."

Another said: "Great place for a gathering. I had the vegetarian lentil roast. Very tasty and so much food - carrots, sprouts, parsnips & potatoes as well as stuffing & gravy - no yorkie pud - I wonder what happened to that but probably couldn't have eaten it anyway! All served with a smile."

The Stourvale Pub

Where: 259 Barrack Road, Christchurch BH23 2AY
Rating: 4/5

One reviewer wrote: "Had a great Sunday lunch with my friend last Sunday. Crispy roast potatoes that had been roast in the oven, not in a chip pan. The beef was very tender, the carrots m broccoli and cabbage tasted fresh - not frozen. Topped off with a Yorkshire pudding and very good gravy. My elderly friend is unable to eat very much but managed more than she had eaten in a long time. My dogs were well catered for too, The staff were very friendly and helpful too. Will definitely return."

Another said: "Will definitely be returning (Sunday lunch) couldn't believe the quality of the food for the price everything fresh (not frozen) the chips are to die for. Good old fashioned food with good old fashioned prices. The staff were very friendly and helpful. After being in lockdown for months it was most refreshing to sit outside with a warm welcome and brilliant good quality food."
