A UNIQUE national boules sport competition is being hosted in Dorset with players from across the country set to compete.

The Pétanque England National Titles Weekend comes to Ferndown from April 30 to May 2 on the King George’s Recreation Ground just off Cherry Grove.

Pétanque, pronounced ‘Pet onk,’ is a sport that has become more popular in England over recent years and is played in more 70 countries worldwide.

The National Singles competition will be contested on April 30, the National Doubles on May 1, and National Mixed Doubles on May 2.

An event spokesperson said: “We are thrilled to bring a national event to Ferndown and the members of Parley Pétanque Club are delighted to be acting as hosts.

“We look forward to welcoming some of the best players in England. There will be lots of local interest particularly from our local clubs Parley PC and Muscliff Park and as well as the nearby Southampton PC.”

Players will assemble for a pre-competition briefing and registration at 9am with play commending at 9.30am. The finals for each competition will be played at 7pm.
