A MAN accused of raping a woman in Poole was looking around to make sure he was not seen while carrying out the offence, a jury was told.

Hasan Kyoybasha, 30 and of Ashley Road, Poole, is accused at Bournemouth Crown Court of sexually assaulting the complainant on the morning of Sunday, September 5, last year.

The defendant denies charges of rape and assault by penetration.

Prosecutors allege that Kyoybasha followed the woman around the Westbourne and Branksome area before having intercourse without her consent.

During the trial yesterday, jurors were shown a video recording of the complainant's interview with police the day after the alleged sex attack near Poole Road.

The woman, aged in her 30s, had been on a night out with a friend at a bar in the Triangle area of Bournemouth when she left alone.

She told police she did not remember leaving the venue but she could remember walking although she unsure where she was going.

The court was told the woman said she was approached by a man on a bike who she did not know – the prosecution say this was the defendant.

"He just kept badgering me," the complainant told police.

She recalled telling him to "leave me alone", the court heard.

The complainant told police the next thing she could remember "I am down the back of somewhere and he is like on top of me doing stuff".

In interview, she said the man "kept grabbing my face and saying stuff", which she could not understand.

The court heard a description from the complainant of the incident.

The jury was told the woman said to the officer he kept "looking around" and "making it look like he was being concerned about me in case anyone walked past whilst he was doing other things".

The woman, who described herself as "seven out of 10 drunk", told police the attacker was "there one minute and gone the next".

When she got up she started crying and tried to flag down a vehicle but was unsuccessful before members of the public came to her aid and called police, the court heard.

The court heard that the woman could not remember large parts of the night when the incident took place.

Appearing in court, the complainant denied suggestions from defence barrister Richard Tutt that she consented to having sex with Kyoybasha.

She told the court: "When I opened my eyes, I woke up and stuff was happening.

"I closed my eyes and just switched off."

Earlier, the jury was shown various CCTV footage of the defendant in close proximity to the complainant.

The court heard it is believed this was the case for a period of around one hour and 45 minutes.

Kyoybasha denies both charges.

The trial continues.
