A MAN who was involved in causing almost £1,500 worth of damage to a fishing boat at Poole Harbour has been sentenced by the courts.

Jazz McIlwain, of Layton Road, Poole, was alleged to have caused £1,450.23 worth of damage to vessel Teal on September 19, 2021.

The 21-year-old pleaded guilty to criminal damage when he appeared in the dock at Poole Magistrates' Court on Thursday, March 3.

He also admitted two further counts of criminal damage related to incidents involving a car belonging to a woman, which took place in Poole last year on April 21 and April 12.

Magistrates fined McIlwain £300 and ordered him to pay a total of £1,209.13 compensation, £34 surcharge and £85 costs.

A Dorset Police spokesman said a second 21-year-old man who was also arrested in connection with the boat incident was issued with a caution for an offence of criminal damage.
