CHERRIES fans have raised nearly £3,000 for a dedicated cancer charity in support of winger David Brooks.

Warm-up tops from the game against Huddersfield Town earlier in the season were signed by the first team and auctioned, alongside the dedicated shirt revealed by Jamal Lowe after he netted against Bristol City.

Brooks, 24, announced in October last year that he had been diagnosed with Stage II Hodgkin Lymphoma and said he was “confident” that he would make a full recovery.

The total figure raised by Cherries fans was £2945.54 with all proceeds being donated to Lymphoma Action, the only UK charity dedicated to lymphoma – the fifth most common form of cancer.

Sarah Thorn, community and partnerships manager at Lymphoma Action, told afcb.co.uk: “We are truly grateful to AFC Bournemouth for their support, and for raising such a fantastic amount for us through the auction.

“All funds raised will help us provide vital information and support to make sure no one has to face lymphoma alone.”

Brooks provided a positive update on his recovery earlier this year and was described by Bournemouth head coach Scott Parker as a “pure fighter”.
