REPAIRS are ongoing at a Bournemouth hotel after a section of roof was ripped off during Storm Eunice, injuring an elderly man.
As reported, a large section of roof was blown from the Bournemouth Sands Hotel in West Cliff Gardens on the morning of February 18, landing on an elderly man who suffered an injured ankle and was freed by various strangers.
It is understood the elderly man is recovering from his injury at home.
The storm damage has caused the entire third floor to be closed to the public while major repairs are carried out to the roof.
Paul Harper, sales and marketing director at Daish’s Holidays, said: “At Bournemouth Sands, following the impact of Storm Eunice, we are replacing the structure that sits on top of the roof as it was badly affected by the severe winds. The roof area surrounding this structure was also damaged and so we are moving the lift motor and controls into the building’s loft area.
“We already have team on site clearing up the area and who are progressing with the works, however, it will be a number of weeks until it is complete. At this time, it means our third floor is closed to the public, but we hope to have this re-open next week while work is still underway on the roof.”
