A MAN described kissing a 15-year-old girl on the neck without consent as a “tiny incident” and said most women have experienced something similar.

Mark Davies, 59, of Chapel Lane, Wimborne, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Bournemouth on February 3, 2021.

Judge Robert Pawson, sentencing him to a 12-month community order at Bournemouth Crown Court on Wednesday, told the defendant he had a “lack of insight”.

Prosecuting, Robert Welling told the court the victim was visiting family in a hotel while the defendant was preparing a meal in the communal kitchen.

The defendant thought the 15-year-old was “troublesome” and he “didn’t believe she was 15”.

Davies then went to the back of the victim, kissed her on the neck and left.

“She was revolted by it,” the prosecutor said. “That resulted in her telephoning her parents, her father made the complaint to the police.”

The court heard how the victim no longer wants to visit the hotel meaning she can’t see her family.

A pre-sentence report mentioned in court stated how Davies said “most women have gone through something similar”.

Representing himself, Davies said: “It was just one tiny incident which I am extremely sorry for.”

He confirmed he would be willing to carry out unpaid work and work with the probation service and was hoping to find a job.

Judge Pawson said he didn’t accept Davies claim he had a “lively conversation” with the victim and was saying “thank you and goodnight”.

He said: “It is quite clear from the CCTV she just happened to be there, you took the opportunity that presented itself to you.

“You have a tendency to focus on the impact on you as opposed to her. I have seen CCTV which is pin-sharp, it is clear it was not a simple thank you.

“You said most women have gone through that, that shows a lack of insight into your behaviour.”

Davies was also ordered to carry out 20 rehabilitation requirement days and 120 hours unpaid work.

Judge Pawson added: “If you don’t turn up, make yourself uncontactable, at those appointments, [the probation service] will bring you back to court and you will leave with no option other than custody.”

Davies will also have to notify as a sex offender for five years.
