FIREFIGHTERS were called to a large kitchen fire in Wareham.

Two fire engines were called to tackle the blaze in West Walls at 8.25pm on Tuesday night, February 22.

On arrival the incident commander needed additional resources and requested a third fire engine to attend which was sent from Poole.

The fire was located in kitchen on the ground floor and was extinguished by eight firefighters who also rescued the homeowners cat.

Crews remained on scene after the fire was extinguished to assist the occupant in salvaging belongings as well as dampening down remaining hotspots.
