AFC Bournemouth are well in contention to secure promotion to the Premier League and I hope they succeed.

They have however been overtaken by BCP Council who have achieved the promotion to the league of most congested places in the world entering at number 99 but destined to rise to a much lower position in years to come.

This certainly puts the area on the world stage.

The councils transport lead Cllr Mike Greene describes the ranking as absolutely right so congratulations all round.

The policies being pursued by the BCP Council will ensure that transport will only become more congested in years to come as a result of there being no proposals in place to in any way improve life for the motorist with the only people being catered for the cycling community.

We now have cycle lanes reducing the traffic capacity for motorists which creates more congestion and air pollution.

Whilst I try to drive around the area I never fail to be amazed at how few cyclists use these lanes compared to the number of cars that are being pushed into using even more restrictive roads.

I drove along Wallisdown Road this week between Kinson Road and Ringwood Road and wide tracks on both sides of the road are now dedicated to cycle lanes but there was not one single cyclist to be seen.

I am not against cycle provision but please do not ignore the needs of road tax paying motorists who seem to have been placed right at the back of the queue in the councils policy making.

Cllr Greene states that 50 per cent of journeys in cars are under 2km. Sounds reasonable but I suggest that most of those journeys will be to go to the shops for food or heavy DIY goods with the prospect of having to carry on a bike heavy bags does not appeal and would be dangerous.

The council needs to rethink the entire policy of transport and accept that the car is here to stay.

Not sure why thousands of homes would have to be bulldozed to enable road improvements to be made.
