PLANS have been submitted for a new dining hall at a Poole secondary school and sixth form in light of rising pupil numbers.

St Edward's Roman Catholic and Church of England School is seeking permission from BCP Council for the development.

If approved, a two-storey building would be constructed and attach to the existing kitchen and light dining area.

The new dining hall would have a mezzanine first floor that would overlook the lower part of the facility.

A statement submitted on behalf of the school by planning consultants Coomber Associates Ltd said the proposal would make use of the existing underutilised space, which would not have any significant impact on ecology or flooding.

"The development is required by the school to meet the needs of pupils and provide the basic facilities set out in Building Bulletin 103," the statement said.

"The proposal will provide a modern facility for future years."

It added: "The school’s current dining facilities do not meet their needs with the school having grown in roll over the last three decades inclusive of the construction of a new block at the front of the school in 2014 resulting in a shortage of dining space."
