A MOTORIST was clocked doing more than double the 40mph on a New Forest road in an incident which police have described as "particularly dangerous".
Officers from Hampshire Roads Policing Unit said there was a herd of cows in the area at the time.
The unit shared details of the incident, which took place on Tuesday, February 15, on social media.
A spokesperson for the team said: "Unbelievably, one of our camera operators caught someone travelling at 83mph in a 40mph zone in the New Forest earlier today.
"As there was also a herd of cows around this was particularly dangerous. Heavy rain and animals on the road equals slower, careful driving."
Speeding on the Forest's roads has been a focus of attention in recent months.
Since the start of November last year, Hampshire Constabulary has carried out 'days of action' in an attempt to cut the number of animals killed by cars.
The campaign, which has been carried out on collision and speeding hot spots, has been named Operation Mountie.
