A MERCEDES car was seized by police after reportedly being driven "erratically" in Bournemouth town centre on Friday night.

Officers from the Dorset Traffic Cops were drawn to the vehicle and stopped it in Old Christchurch Road.

A spokesperson for the team said while the driver was not impaired, they were "seriously wanting".

It was reported the driver had no insurance, saying "their mate let them borrow the car for a spin", and two tyres were below the legal tread depth.

"We seized the vehicle and reported the driver for several offences as well as issued a Section 59 notice (a written warning)," the spokesperson said.

Later officers were drawn to a Volkswagen Touareg due to its condition.

It reportedly had no MOT since December, no insurance and a front tyre approaching baldness.

The spokesperson said: "Another vehicle seized and driver reported for several offences."

Elsewhere, members of the police team spotted a vehicle "weaving in the lanes" on the A35 Upton Bypass, Poole.

It was reported that the driver failed a roadside breath test for alcohol and was taken to custody.
