A fish and chip shop in Swanage has closed its doors for good.

Harry Ramsden’s in Station Road has shut down but fish-fanatics fear not - a new award-winning chip shop will be opening in its place.

A spokesperson for Harry Ramsden’s said: “Harry Ramsden’s has taken the difficult decision to close the Swanage location.

“To find your nearest Harry Ramsden’s please visit our website.

“A new proprietor will be taking over in Swanage - a company called Harlees, a well-known and local operator.

“Thank you for your loyalty and custom over the years, we hope to see you soon.”

A name some may know - Harlees - has a number of fish and chip shops across Dorset and Wiltshire and will be opening in Station Road.

‘Fanatical about fish’, Harlees is a fourth generation family business that first opened in 1997.

Since then, the business has gone on to open several branches across the region and has won numerous awards including being named as one of the best fish and chip shops in the UK last year.

Kaylee Herbert, Harlee's director, said: "We will be re-opening for Easter following a complete refit.

"As a Dorset family run business we are excited to be entering the main town of Swanage.

"We have a brilliant, experienced manager in place to run the shop and we are welcoming an experienced team from Harrys joining the business."

The company’s website states it is “seeking to continue to build on its quality and service but also is looking to branch out to further support the local communities and surrounding areas we find ourselves lucky to be a part of.”
