WILKO will be closing its doors for the final time in Bournemouth this weekend.

The town centre store announced its closure last month after being unable to agree on “more favourable lease terms” with the landlord.

The discount home goods store in the Richmond Gardens Shopping Centre - also known as the Dalkeith Arcade - will close on Saturday, February 12.

A spokesperson for Wilko said: “We’ll be bidding a fond farewell to our Dalkeith Arcade store on February 12.

"We’d like to take this opportunity to thank any affected team members and to reassure customers that we’ll continue to offer everything they need from nearby stores in Winton and Boscombe or via wilko.com.”

The closure of the Bournemouth store will come as a big blow to the town centre with Wilko being a big draw for shoppers in the region.

Businesses in the Richmond Gardens Shopping Centre previously told the Bournemouth Daily Echo that they face losing more than half their trade when Wilko closes.

With the future of the store hanging in the balance, all of the businesses in Richmond Gardens Shopping Centre are feeling the strain.

Samuel Baker, owner of Samuel James Jewellers, said: “It’s really worrying and really scary.

“It’s ridiculous, I don’t know what’s going to happen to be honest.

“It’s a massive unit, I don’t know if anyone else is going to fill it and I don’t understand why the landlord wouldn’t reduce the rent or maybe there is something else going on with Wilko.”

The nearest alternative Wilko stores are located in Winton and Boscombe.
