COLEHILL sports and social club is to add a safety net to its boundary with Rowlands Hill and Greenhill Road.

It will be used to stop big hitters crashing cricket balls out of the ground – putting pedestrians at risk.

Dorset Council has approved the application for the south east perimeter of the Wimborne Road club to improve public safety.

In its application the club says that in recent years it has seen an increasing number of cricket balls being hit over the existing wire fence on the Wimborne Road boundary.

It will use a removal net screen to be put up at the start of the season, to remain in place over the summer months, and then be removed at the close of the season.

The screen will be similar in design to the one which is already in use on the western boundary and will have 11 hand-dug post holes with those digging the holes required not to cut through tree roots of more than 25mm in diameter.
